This is the story of my life—where I came from and what I have done. Family has always been deeply important to me, and at 67 years old, I’ve had the privilege of knowing six generations, from my great-grandparents to my grandchildren. With good health and a bit of luck, perhaps I’ll witness a seventh.
I was born in Israel, and the story of how my parents came to live there is not only the history of my family, but part of the broader journey of the Jewish people. Being Jewish is a central part of who I am. I write this manuscript so that my descendants will know where they came from. As the French philosopher Simone Weil once wrote, “To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognized need of the human soul.” May the words I write help root my family in its history.
This is genius thank you Irit! A gift to us all!
